Novel: A Forum on Fiction accepts manuscripts in any standard citation style; however, authors of accepted pieces will be responsible for bringing their manuscripts into conformity with the MLA Handbook 9th edition guidelines, with in-text parenthetical documentation and a list of works cited, prior to publication. All manuscripts should be typed in 12-point font with 1-inch margins and double-spacing. Informational footnotes should be kept to a minimum. Though we do not maintain formal length requirements, the editors recommend that manuscripts remain within 25–35 pages, including footnotes and works cited. Novel reserves the right to return submissions that do not meet these specifications.
Manuscripts should be prepared for anonymous review: please remove the author's name and any identifying references from the manuscript file. Submissions should include an abstract of up to 250 words and 3–5 keywords, which are entered during the ScholarOne submission process.

Novel's three-stage review process typically takes 20–24 weeks, allowing time for processing by the editorial staff, an initial editorial review, evaluation by an external specialist in a relevant field, and, finally, review by the editorial board.
